This book was written with a singular, vital mission: to serve as an informative and educational roadmap for those on the front lines of crisis. By emphasizing a uniquely Canadian perspective, it aims to increase public awareness and improve outcomes for victims—prioritizing immediate safety, long-term health, and offender accountability to prevent future homicides. From the critical dangers of Nonfatal Strangulation (NFS) and IPV-related concussions to the complexities of Human Trafficking and its specific impact on Indigenous women and girls, this work provides a comprehensive trauma-informed framework for professionals across the country.

While I am a dedicated student of these critical topics rather than the sole authority, this book is deeply rooted in the research of global experts. I have drawn on the pioneering work of Dr. Eve Valera regarding IPV concussions, the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), and Gael Strack, Esq. of the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention. To further this mission, I founded DUAHT.ca (Dentists United Against Human Trafficking) and frizzellforensics.ca, aiming to bridge the gap between healthcare and advocacy by referencing the true voices of authority in the field.

The goal is to multiply our collective expertise and standardize training across a wide spectrum of professions—including ER physicians, law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and dental healthcare professionals. As noted in Jude 1:22, “And of some have compassion, making a difference.” By educating those who work directly with victims, we are striving to bring the information necessary to turn compassion into life-saving action.
